About The Brinkley, Lawrence, Singletary & Lewis families of Southeastern North Carolina
This site is dedicated to documenting the ancestry of the African-American Lawrence, Brinkley, Singletary and Lewis families of Bladen and Columbus counties in North Carolina. The information contained herein represents over five years and hundreds of hours (literally) spent scouring census data as well as other historical records; traveling to state archives and other record holding agencies; interviewing family members and generally pulling out my hair!

Though incomplete, I feel that there is sufficient information compiled to provide family members and other researchers a wealth of insight into the habitation and presence of these family lines in Southeastern North Carolina. As the researcher in this project, I maintain all rights and credit to the information contained on this site; therefore access has been restricted to family members and other researchers by invitation only (from me, especially until the project is finished). I appreciate the cooperation of my family in this effort. Please
notify me before using this information for any other purpose.

I also appreciate the assistance given to me by my family and would particularly like to acknowledge the following persons:

My sister Lynn who brought my first genealogy program

Dad, brother Daryl and Auntie Clara for keeping me motivated by staying `interested` in my discoveries

Mom, Uncle David, Aunt Sarah and Cousin T-Nite for patiently allowing me to rummage through their old photos and copy them

Kudos to Aunt Sarah Davis, Uncle Al Singletary and Cousin Leroy Lawrence for sharing family history with me to get me going

Gabriel, Taylor and David for they are the reason I do this

and most especially

To my Lord And Savior Jesus Christ,
for giving me the desire and grace to complete this project!

Please enjoy your visit and should you find any errors or ommissions you would like to correct/add, please contact me. My database has grown to over 500 names and I`d appreciate any and all help. It is my goal to have a hard copy printed to share with family members in the near future. (I know, I said that before) but this is what I have so far and it is a massive task because there are sooooo many of us! Please SIGN guestbook (above) so I`ll know you dropped by!

Much Love to you all,
 Lisa Lawrence-Hudson

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
